Jakarta. An immigration office in Jakarta on Tuesday arrested four Nigerian nationals without proper stay permits at an apartment complex in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. Hambali Haryadinata, head of the North Jakarta Immigration Office, said that officers on Tuesday morning had raided the apartment units of the four Nigerians, identified as VC, DC, CF, and FU, after receiving reports over suspicious activities from other residents. "During the operation, we asked them to present their passports and visas but instead they tried to escape and officers immediately apprehended them," said Hambali at his office. Officials did not find any drugs during the raid, but confiscated five laptops, five mobile phones, two USB modem sticks, three sim cards, two wallets and a sum of cash. According to Hambali, the four Nigerians confessed that they had come to Indonesia to do business but declined to provide further details. "We haven't found any leads for other crimes. For now, they are under suspicion of having violated the immigration law," said Hambali, referring to the 2011 Immigration Law. The four Nigerians could face three months imprisonment and a total of Rp 25 million ($1,770) in fines, he said.
