'Never let strangers kiss your baby': Mother's warning to parents after her daughter is hospitalised with near-fatal cold sores after a peck on the lips.

A mother has warned parents not to let anyone kiss their newborn on the mouth after her baby daughter was hospitalised with potentially fatal cold sores. 

Doncaster-based Claire Henderson's little girl Brooke had to spend five days in hospital with horrific blisters that could have caused liver and brain damage. 

Ms Henderson, who is engaged to partner Steven Perkins, has since sent a heartfelt Facebook message to inform other mothers of the dangers.

Worried Claire took to social media and wrote: 'Please share this with every new mum and pregnant woman you know... COLD SORES CAN BE FATAL FOR A BABY.

'Before 3 months old a baby cannot fight the herpes virus. If a baby contracts this it can cause liver and brain damage and lead to death.' 

She added: 'I know this sounds like I am scaremongering but if my friend had not told me about this my baby girl could have been very seriously ill.'

The post has so far been shared more than 35,000 times.

Fortunately for Claire she noticed the signs early and rushed her daughter straight to A&E.

Claire added: 'She was VERY lucky, all her tests came back clear. The moral of the story is DO NOT let anyone kiss your newborns mouth, even if they don't look like they have a cold sore.'

Over 85 per cent of the population carry the herpes virus.  

Claire said many of her friends had 'not heard of this before' and she feels it important to raise awareness. 

One of Claire's followers commented: 'Well said Claire people do need to be aware of this as I didn't know this could happen to babies. 

'Just so glad you was on the ball & went with your instincts and got our Brooke to hospital straight away.'

While another added: 'So pleased she is recovering well. We'll done for spotting the signs for something that could have had a very different outcome. She's a little fighter bless her,'

NHS Choices state cold sores are 'small blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth'. 

They are caused by the herpes simplex virus and 'usually clear up without treatment within seven to 10 days'. 

They often start with a tingling, itching or burning sensation around your mouth. Small fluid-filled sores will then appear, most commonly on the edges of your lower lip.

While a mild condition in adults, they can cause liver and brain damage in children under six weeks old and even lead to death.   

COLD SORE VIRUS MOST LETHAL IN FIRST SIX WEEKS OF LIFE

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which is carried by most people, but usually lies dormant.

It can be caught through physical contact, such as kissing or even breastfeeding. 

While most adults carry the virus without any health risks, it can be fatal for babies because of their poor immunity.

Those in the first six weeks of life are most at risk.

While the virus can be notoriously hard to detect, early signs include a baby not feeding, drowsiness, fever, floppiness and unusual crying. 

The Royal College of Midwives recommends that anyone with a cold sore or symptoms of an impending outbreak should avoid kissing a baby as HSV is most virulent when the skin is broken.

2yr old girl murdered by her mother's boyfriend because he thought she was possessed by devil

 

 

The child known as 'Baby Doe' whose remains were found on an island in Boston Harbor has been identified after a long and exhaustive search. The girl's body was found in a trash bag on June 25 by a woman who was walking her dog on Deer Island, Boston Globe reports.

Horrifying details about the girl's short life and death were revealed in court Monday morning, Sept. 21 as her mom, Rachelle Bond, and Bond's boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, were arraigned after their arrest on Friday.

 

 

Bella Bond was killed in her bedroom by her mother's boyfriend - a man who was convinced the toddler was possessed by demons, a prosecutor told a Boston courtroom on Monday.

McCarthy, 35, is being held without bond on a murder charge. Bond, 40, is being held on $1 million bail after authorities charged her as an accessory after the fact. Assistant District Attorney David Deakin told a Dorchester District Court judge on Monday that a "lifelong friend" of McCarthy's broke the case open. The friend told authorities that he had lived with Bond and McCarthy for a week or two just several months before her death, and was "appalled by their treatment" of Bella.

 

"What troubled him the most was that both of them, particularly Mr. McCarthy, had locked the girl in the closet for 30 minutes to an hour while she screamed to be let out," Deakin said. "Mr. McCarthy told the lifelong friend that she was possessed by demons, and that's why she deserved that treatment." The treatment escalated into deadly force sometime in late May, Deakin said, when one night, Bella refused to go to bed. "Mr. McCarthy said he was going to go to the back bedroom and calm her down," Deakin said. When Bond went to check on them, he continued, "She found Mr. McCarthy standing over Bella... with his hand near her abdomen." Bella wasn't talking.

 

 

 

 

Bond noticed her face was swollen, Deakin said. "She went to her daughter and picked her up and she told police that she knew at that moment that her daughter was dead." No manner of death has been determined by a medical examiner. Suffocation or asphyxiation, which could have resulted from blunt force to her stomach, wouldn't necessarily leave signs of physical trauma, Deakin said.

McCarthy allegedly told Bond that Bella "was a demon anyway. It was her time to die." He then allegedly threatened to kill Bond if she reported anything to police. Both Bond and McCarthy have prior criminal records and were involved in drugs, Deakin said. They will return to court on Oct. 20. The friend who tipped off authorities told them that he texted McCarthy, asking where Bella was after noticing a resemblance between the billboards put up across Boston seeking information about a "Baby Doe." The friend said McCarthy claimed Bella had been taken away by child services, who twice visited Bella over the course of her lifetime but left her in Bond's custody.

After killing Bella, according to Deakin, McCarthy stuffed her body in a trash bag and kept it in a refrigerator for days before dumping her in the Boston Harbor. When her body was found, she was dressed in white pants with black polka dots and a zebra-print blanket was left in the trash bag. The woman who discovered Bella's body noticed the bag after her dog began pawing at it.

 

 

Authorities also found books on "demons and demonology" in the apartment the couple shared, Deakin said. They were allegedly high on heroin for several days after Bella's death. Bella's father, Joseph Amoroso, told local media in Boston that Bond told him her boyfriend killed the girl. Amoroso, 32, said he had been living in Florida for the past couple of years and had never met his daughter.

He also wiped tears from his eyes as he sat and listened in court on Monday. Bella had pierced ears and appeared well-nourished at the time of her death. She would have turned 3 years old last month. Source: Boston Globe

Parents donate organs of their 8yr old daughter who was killed by a drunk driver to 3 children

 

 

John and Adrie, parents of a little girl who died on Saturday, September 19, after being knocked over by a drunk driver, has donated her organs to three children.

Nadia Bond, 8, from Kraaifontein, Cape Town was walking to a house nearby to visit a friend when she was hit by a car on Friday, September 18. She died the next day in hospital. Her heartbroken father John Bond said she suffered internal bleeding, a broken neck and extensive brain damage.

Bond said the driver transported his daughter to the Kraaifontein Day Hospital without calling an ambulance. He said the family only heard she had been injured when they got a call to say their daughter was at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

John wrote on social media:

"Nothing stops it from being real now, no more hope, you’re gone but I still hear you calling. And I don’t know where to look, baby, I can’t find you…"

Nadia’s mother Adrie said her family received a call from staff at the Red Cross informing them that Nadia’s liver and kidneys were a successful match for three other children. "She is a real angel,” Adrie said.

The family decided to donate Nadia’s organs because they felt that saving other children’s lives was what she would have wanted. Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said a case of culpable homicide was being investigated. Bradley Gysman, 22, appeared in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with Nadia’s death. Gysman was granted bail of R2000.
