Thibaut Courtois Tweets disappointment at letting Chelsea down after red card v Swansea

It was one of the key incidents of the opening day in the Premier League and Thibaut Courtois’ sending off undoubtedly impacted on Chelsea’s draw with Swansea. The Welsh side were coming back into proceedings 2-1 down just after half-time, but the sending off of the Belgian goalkeeper and subsequent penalty secured the draw for Swansea. Bafetimbi Gomis ran through on 54 minutes and was brought down by Courtois just inside the Chelsea penalty box. Some pundits on Sky Sports (Jamie Redknapp and Thierry Henry) suggested that Chelsea were hard done by. But, on Saturday evening, Courtois Tweeted his disappointment at the red card and seems to blame himself with the key line: “Sad to let the team down on that moment.” Courtois will now miss Chelsea’s next match, a mouthwatering clash against Manchester City at the Etihad next Sunday. The Belgian was a key player for the Blues as they won the Premier League title last season… 2-2 , red card, not the start I expected. Sad to let the team down on that moment. They fought really hard till the end to win this game ! — Thibaut Courtois (@thibautcourtois)
